DK 2019 00576 A1 Nail clipper system Field of the Invention The present invention relates to the field of nail clippers.
Background of the Invention The common form of construction of nail clippers include open side walls. Therefore, a severed nail may readily pass through an open side wall to be deposited randomly within the ambient. Therefore, after clipping of nails of the fingers and toes, there is frequently left adjacent the clipping area, such as on the floor, a scattered and rather messy accumulation of severed nails. In the past, there have been attempts for solving this problem. It is known that a severed portion of the nail will be severed within the confines of the nail clipper structure itself. Therefore, the open side walls of the nail clipper could be closed during the clipping operation so that severed portions of the nails will remain within the confines of the clipper. Therefore, the user can by opening of a closed side wall of the nail clipper, then deposit the severed portion of the nails into a waste basket or other similar collecting receptacle. In the past there have been attempts at constructing nail clippers to achieve the objective. However, the mechanisms of the prior art are complex, poorly functioning, expensive to manufacture, and difficult to use. Therefore, widespread usage has not occurred. Object of the Invention The objective of the present invention is to provide a cover for use in conjunction with a nail clipper, which can be quickly and easily connected to any conventional nail clipper, is non-complicated to operate and is inexpensive to purchase by the consumer.
, DK 2019 00576 A1 Description of the Invention A first aspect relates to a nail clipper system comprising: - a nail clipper comprising: i) an upper and a lower clipper arm attached to each other at their first end, and each configured as a clipper jaw at their second end; wherein the upper and lower clipper arms are angled relative to one another thereby defining a space between the clipper jaws suitable for receiving a finger or toe nail; and il) a lever bar system adapted for forcing the clipper jaws towards each other, and - a cover comprising: i) a base plate comprising a tail portion and a head portion; wherein the tail portion is adapted for supporting the rear part of the lower clipper arm of the nail clipper and wherein the head portion is adapted for supporting the front part of the lower clipper arm of the nail clipper; and il) two side walls extending upwards from each side of the head portion of the base plate; wherein the head portion extends beyond the clipper jaw of said lower clipper arm; and wherein the cover further comprises: - a top plate releasably fastened to said two side walls; wherein the head portion of the base plate, the two side walls, and the top plate together define a first and a second opening, the first opening being sized and adapted for receiving the finger tip of a user, and the second opening being sized and adapted for receiving the lever bar of the lever bar system.
A second aspect relates to a cover for use in conjunction with a nail clipper comprising: i) a base plate comprising a tail portion and a head portion; wherein the tail portion is adapted for supporting the rear part of the lower clipper arm of a nail clipper and wherein the head portion is adapted for supporting the front part of the lower clipper arm of a nail clipper; and
2 DK 2019 00576 A1 il) two side walls extending upwards from each side of the head portion of the base plate; wherein the head portion extends beyond the clipper jaw of said lower clipper arm; and wherein the cover further comprises: - a top plate releasably fastened to said two side walls; wherein the head portion of the base plate, the two side walls, and the top plate together define a first and a second opening, the first opening being sized and adapted for receiving the finger or toe tip of a user, and the second opening being sized and adapted for receiving the lever bar of a nail clipper. In one or more embodiments, the head portion of the base plate is broader than the tail portion. A specific configuration may be that the head portion is configured as an approximately trapezoidal shape. This configuration allows the user to angle his or her finger or toe nail relative to the clipper jaws. In a preferred embodiment, the head portion is provided with angular indices, preferably on its top face, thereby allowing the user to cut the nails at a specific angle. To encourage the user to angle his or her finger or toe nail relative to the clipper jaws the front edge of the head portion may be convexly curved.
In one or more embodiments, the tail portion is configured as a square tube adapted to encircle the rear part of the lower clipper arm. In one or more embodiments, a plate is connected below the tail portion and extending rearwards away from the tail portion. The plate preferably has a thickness of at least 3 mm, such as within the range of 3-20 mm, e.g. within the range of 5-15 mm, e.g. 3-10 mm. The plate has a function as a finger support allowing for a better grip on the cover by the user. The plate may be shaped as a figure, such as an animal head, an animal, a vehicle, such as a train, a bus, a boat, a plane, or a car, or a flower. The shape, apart from functioning as a finger
1 DK 2019 00576 A1 support, has the effect of calming a child having her or his nails clipped by an adult.
In one or more embodiments, the top plate is made from a transparent material, such as glass or plastic in order to help the user to position his or her finger nail correctly.
In one or more embodiments, the top plate is configured as a magnifying glass.
